Tyler Garrett explores sound on synth-filled EP, "Runaway"
Switching up his sound and ultimately striking gold, Tyler Garrett has just shared another instantly classic EP titled Runaway. Read on for our full analysis of the record, in addition to a refresher on this emerging artist.
For this Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter, it’s quickly appearing that he’ll never set boundaries for himself within the realm of music he aims to create. Following up his 2021 full length album Morning Star which we fell in love with, he’s made his return on an expertly produced EP called Runaway. To no surprise in the slightest, it’s a wonderfully robust listen, and we can’t help but recommend everyone get their ears on it ASAP.
Seeing as though Tyler Garrett has been working tirelessly to create throughout the pandemic, he’s said to have recorded over 200 songs with his engineer Jonathan Borsis. Yes, you read that correctly, 200 songs! What that says for the future of single or album releases, we’re not sure, but you can 100% guarantee that our hype levels are at maximum volume. Runaway, in our opinion, was a wonderful evolution from Morning Star and has continued to concrete his sound as something we look forward to changing even more in the future.
Speaking directly on Runaway as a whole though, the EP comes in at 6 total tracks spanning just around 22 minutes in length. Kicking things right off on a high note with “Do You Remember?”, Tyler does a delicate job of easing old and new listeners in with a well rounded track that highlights pretty much exactly what you’re going to expect on the whole. The thing is, it doesn’t really stop there as the track list continues to run through, especially on the club-inspired hit “Stardust”. As much as we loved the first two tracks as introductions to the record, “Stardust” specifically gave us that “oh hell yes” moment as the atmosphere and vibe of it at all aligned perfectly. From there on out, the BPM stayed high, Tyler truly showed off his vocal range in a way that made him seem extremely comfortable, and plenty of good times were had finishing it up.
Part of what we enjoyed so much about Runaway was the unexpected diversity in sound and the inclusion of instrumentation that wasn’t present on his last album. The experimentation here worked incredibly well and the pick up in pace has allowed for us to pick apart the record to place the tracks on different mood-specific playlists. If you’re looking to get your heart rate up during a workout, check out “Stardust” and “Rendition”. If a semi-relaxed but still endearing listen is on your horizon, “Do You Remember?” and “Count On Me”should be on your radar. All in all if you’re looking for a super cohesive EP from an artist that we admire, check out Runaway as a whole!
If you happen to be unaware of Tyler Garrett’s music entirely, there’s legitimately no better time to do some exploration than now. With presumably more on the way in the coming months, becoming a fan and following along would be the best call for all the music recorded and in the works. Lastly, you can check out Runaway and stay tuned for more by checking out all the important links below. Enjoy!
