Tock follow up single "Melody" with the premiere of music video
With the release of the single coming on March 26th, Tock is back with the official music video for his latest track, “Melody”. We are loving it! Read along as we break our thoughts down overall, in addition to a background on the artist as well.
Based out Wisconsin, Tock are a self-proclaimed dysfunctional duo crafting incredibly catchy alternative and pop rock music. Made up of Joel Tock and Steve Laxton, the two have come together bringing a ton of experience within the live and digital space. Performing countless shows throughout the years and backing it up with their fantastic music, the single and video for “Melody” are just another notch in their impressive belts.
Specifically on this newest release, Tock have stated that “Melody turned out to be an honest attempt at a sonic response to the visual idea of melting conscious and unconscious experiences together in a surreal and lucid state, as exemplified by the Surrealistic artwork of Man Ray and Max Ernst. As these artists portrayed these thoughts so elegantly, this was a heavy influence on the song's concept.”
As much as we loved “Melody” from the moment we listened for the first time, the music video is really what set it over the top. We really don’t want to give too much away here, because we’d obviously prefer you watch for yourselves, but the cinematography and elements included in the video were quite an interesting take on your classic music video. You’ll see for yourselves of course, but it’s surely the best way to see the band in full play the song we’re loving.
Considering that the band has consistently been putting out hit after hit in the form of singles, our real hope here is that by the end of the year we can get a cohesive piece of work in the form of an EP or full length album. Preferably we’d want them to all have the smooth and crispness of “Melody”, but we’d also love to hear a bit of experimentation from the band as well. They’ve got so much collective experience and influence from other genres, working that into their complete sound would surely be an interesting evolution.
With all that being said though, our honest recommendation is to watch the music video and listen to the single, but also to follow along with the trajectory of this duo that are shaking things up. They’re not belting out the same old type of rock music that’s boring, they’re changing it for the better and mixing the old with the new. Enjoy!
