The Vanities preview their orchestrally rich new single, "Private Army"
Set to officially release on March 31st via Star Asylum Records, we got the special opportunity to preview The Vanities’ newest song “Private Army”, and it’s undoubtedly another winner. Read on for our thoughts on the track, as well as an update on the band.
Made up of Rhys Bradley (vocals/guitar) and Adam Hill (bass), The Vanities are an electronic rock duo currently based out of Cardiff. We’ve reviewed the band’s work extensively over the years, so you can only imagine our sheer joy to know that they’ve got a ton more music in the works. Their latest, “Private Army” is a slow burner and melancholic wonder with outrageous yet uplifting instrumentation, and we’ve quickly come to appreciate every single moments. We’re very excited for it to be shared with the world, but for now, let us tell you more.
Steering away from their quintessential 80’s sound, they’ve pivoted into something a bit more mature leaning towards what they’re calling, “an epic orchestral affair”. We can confidently claim that it works in the best way possible, mainly in that it sends chills down your spine in the latter half, hitting screaming and euphoric highs that come to an unfortunate end once the final notes hit. As Rhys’ vocals are fully on display, they’ve simply never sounded better. The bass reverberates as well, setting a specific mood and tone, but truly the duo have come together and revamped their complete style for a downright special sounding track.
With the band planning a small number of “unplugged” shows in support of this release, we’re not sure how it’s going to sound, but have full faith in their collective skills to pull it off. They’ll be playing with Go West’s Peter Cox at Cardiff’s Acapela Studio on 16th and 17th May 2023. If you happen to be in the area or close by, we wholeheartedly urge you to grab a ticket and experience what we can’t as we’re unfortunately so far away. However, in the meantime we’ll be listening to “Private Army” on repeat leading up to the big release day on March 31st.
