The Old North succeed on nostalgic sounding EP, "Ghost"

Following up their stellar self-titled debut EP, The Old North have made a timely return with an all new record titled Ghost. Please read on for our complete review of the EP, in addition to a background on these talented artists.

Putting their own spin on that classic Bluegrass and Americana sound, The Old North are a Boston-based band that have seriously wowed us with their fresh release of Ghost. Channeling quite the nostalgic feel on the record, they’ve still managed to introduce a ton of modern elements and have presented old and new fans with the clear revolution of their self-titled EP. Nonetheless, we are highly recommending music listeners everywhere dig into their music.

Immediately on the opener “Southbound”, The Old North sort of transports the listener into a time capsule and sends them back 40-50 years. Had we been living in the outlaw times, this absolutely would’ve been the soundtrack we preferred to have on repeat. Although considering this is coming out in 2021, it’s still just as fresh and just as innovative as anyone could hope for. Featuring an extremely diverse set of instrumentals that continuously kept us guessing throughout its near 17 minute run time, there isn’t a lull present on the entirety of Ghost.

Of course as captivating as the record sounds, it’s equally as impressive on the songwriting and lyricism end. Each song does the same transportation method of taking the listener and putting them into the story world they’re creating. There’s some clever lines present here all across the listen and there’s no doubt in our minds you’ll be entertained as well. What we love so much about these limited track EP’s is that there’s no filler to be found and the band is really giving you the best they’ve got. With so much music released on a consistent basis, it would be impossible to keep up, but The Old North have succeeded in sustaining our attention.

With all that being said, this was a delightful Bluegrass-inspired listen that we will 100% be coming back to in the near future. Our suggestion is for everyone to get listening, which you can do by checking out the important links below. You can also follow along to stay tuned for everything on its way.
