THE CJ opens up on new single, "Don't Lose Yourself" - Q&A

THE CJ, hailing from Great Falls, Montana, has made a powerful entrance into the music scene. Their rendition of Christina Perri's renowned track "Human" gained attention, and their debut original composition, "Don't Lose Yourself," further solidified their presence. This song underscores the significance of embracing authenticity without being overly concerned about external opinions. "Don't Lose Yourself" marks the beginning of a series of original releases by THE CJ. We did a full Q&A with the artist which you can find below, enjoy!

WWAM: To start, you just released your first original song, "Don't Lose Yourself". What was the thought process behind it all?

THE CJ: “Don’t Lose Yourself” came from a place of advice. Don’t get lost or caught up in everything going on around you, live in the moment.

WWAM: What artist influences can listeners find in this song?

THE CJ:“Don’t Lose Yourself” is heavily Paramore inspired. Paramore has helped shape my taste in music and craft the vibe I want to have as an artist.

WWAM: What was the inspiration behind its creation?

THE CJ: I just got out of a relationship where I felt like I was taken for granted and I felt very lost. I don’t want anyone else to feel stuck like that.

WWAM: The production on the song is so good. How did it come together?

THE CJ: I had a great team working behind me on “Don’t Lose Yourself”. I had amazing producers and the best vocal coach I could ask for supporting me in making it perfect.

WWAM: Please give us some insight into the genre here, how are you putting a label on this?

THE CJ:I’m still experimenting with my sound. But I definitely want to fall more in the pop-punk space.

WWAM: Are you going to be looking to experiment in the future?

THE CJ: I will always be experimenting. Life is about changing and trying new things, so I'm looking forward to trying out new sounds and new ideas.

WWAM: What’s your process? How do you go about creating a song? What comes first?

THE CJ: When it comes to creating a song, the inspiration has to come first. Something has to inspire me to write, and then everything else kind of falls into place once I start writing.

WWAM: Will you find any opportunities to play your music live this year or next?

THE CJ: I don’t know if there will be any live performances any time soon. But I will keep you posted via my social media!

WWAM: There’s been so many incredible releases this past year, what have you been listening to in your free time?

THE CJ: I don’t listen to the radio much. Most of my favorite music is a little older, from the early 2000s. Right now I listen to a lot of My Chemical Romance and Palaye Royale.

WWAM: What's your personal plan for the next year?

THE CJ:Over the next year, I hope to develop my sound and write more music. I’d really like to get started on an album or an EP.

WWAM: For the person that's going to discover your music from this interview, what's an opening message you'd like to say to them before they click the play button?
THE CJ: I’m just here to be myself and make awesome music! I hope you enjoy and I hope you stick around to see what’s coming!
