TexMexChex serves up another summer smash hit, "No Invitan"

Review by Austin Sher

Back with his second single release of 2020, is TexMexChex with his latest track, “No Invitan”. Join us as we take a deep dive into our thoughts on the music, in addition to a bit of background and insight into the artist as well.

Energetic composer, multi-instrumentalist and performer TexMexChex has released his second single, “No Invitan” on all digital platforms today, September 10th, 2020. Produced by the artist himself and written by his father, celebrated Mexican folk musician Armando Ojeda, the song’s Spanish title translates into English as “Didn’t Invite” and takes a light-hearted look at everyone’s fear of missing out in the modern world. The uplifting song features the signature Hammond electric organ sounds made famous by cumbia pioneers in the 1980s/’90s and dynamic percussion elements. It will be followed by a music video, to be released in Fall 2020.

Now for those that don’t know, TexMexChex is actually the work of Sergio Ojeda, who absolutely impressed us with this latest single. While he’s on lead vocals and his father on the keyboard, the song also features the talents of renowned Tejano drummer Aaron Holler and bassist/guitarist Robert Aleman. It was mixed and mastered by Grammy-nominated sound engineer/producer Gabriel Zavala of Zavala Production.

Having no prior knowledge of the artist’s music before listening, we have to say that our first impressions were just how lighthearted and danceable the song really was. Being Southern California natives, this genre of music is something most Californians have heard throughout their lifetimes. However in this case, Sergio really took it to the next level in terms of sound and atmosphere that were added into the track. You can so obviously tell the love and soul that went into its production.

Considering we’re nearing the end of summer, a song like this couldn’t have come at a better time. While we’re all trying to adjust to safely having summer BBQ’s or gatherings, it’s songs like these that can really liven up a party. It does nothing more than make you want to groove, sing along, or dance the night away. While we don’t fully understand the lyrics, as it is in Spanish, it doesn’t really matter because the music speaks for itself.

Make sure to put this on at your next hangout, we highly recommend and encourage it! For all things TexMexChex, to listen to “No Invitan”, and to keep up with all future release and artist information, please check out the following links below.
