teenatown crafts an uplifting and relatable listen on single, "boundary boss"
Infectiously catchy on the first listen and beyond, we’ve found ourselves head over heels in love with the latest single “boundary boss” coming from teenatown. Seriously, don’t miss out on our glowing review of the track and a background on this artist below.
Indie-pop artist teenatown, also known as Tina Miller, has released a new song called "boundary boss" that explores the theme of over-giving and setting boundaries. The Long Island, New York native delivers a heartfelt and introspective performance in this song that showcases her musical talent and songwriting skills. It happened to have been our introduction to the artist, and considering she’s only released her debut thus far, we’re fully in it for the long haul.
The lyrics delve into the idea of not having access to oneself due to constantly giving and doing for others. Miller's personal experiences with this topic shine through in her performance, giving the song an authentic and relatable quality. She writes from her own perspective, reflecting on her childhood and how it has impacted her current habits. Musically though, "boundary boss" is an indie-pop gem with a catchy melody that stays with the listener long after the song is over. The song's production is simple yet effective, allowing Miller's voice and lyrics to take center stage. It’s the inflections in her vocal stature that keep your brain buzzing along, and by the end, you’re humming along with the chorus.
The instrumentation is minimal, featuring a subtle beat, light guitar strumming, and gentle piano chords that provide a soft bed for Miller's voice. Honestly though, in our opinion that was a solid stylistic choice so as to not takeaway from the overall messaging and low key feeling the song gives off. Any gimmicky or novelty production effects could have come off cheesy and taken away the real genuine feeling of the track.
Overall, "boundary boss" is a poignant and honest portrayal of the importance of setting boundaries and taking care of oneself. Miller's relatable lyrics, coupled with her musical talent, make this song an excellent addition to any indie-pop playlist. Teenatown has certainly marked her territory as a boundary boss in the music industry.
