Sumyeti make massive return with surf rock-inspired single, "Necromancer"

Serving up their first piece of music since 2016, Sumyeti has made their valiant return with an absolute rocker titled “Necromancer”. We are loving it! Please read on for an in-depth review of the single, as well as a background on the band.

Recording all over the world from Colorado to France and in between, Sumyeti have resurfaced with a scorching hot new single called “Necromancer”. Giving us a taste of what’s to come as this is the lead single off of their new album coming in 2023, consider our collective hype levels at an all time high. The band have fused together a ton of rock subgenres for something that effortlessly feels unique and fresh, a rarity in today’s musical landscape. Plain and simple, we’re urging everyone out there to give this a spin as soon as possible.

Somewhere between surf and psychedelic rock, Sumyeti truly has put together a sound that 100% resonates with our personal preferences. On “Necromancer”, the listener is immediately immersed into their trance-like sounding, hinging on every note played as the instrumental feels like it’s getting more and more intense. As soon as the vocals enter the mix though, that’s when things start to become a bit more serious as well. The switch in singers midway through was also a nice surprise, keeping you on your toes for more twists, turns, and adventurous mood swings. Unfortunately surf rock nowadays feels like it’s either not on listeners’ radar or has been completely forgotten about, however this has fully revitalized our love for the genre.

We also took the opportunity to listen to Sumyeti’s self-titled debut EP to make comparisons and experience their growth. While this doesn’t necessarily feel like a pivot, there’s definitely more of a maturity and expression within the instrumentation. It could be a sign of bigger things to come as their record gets closer to its official release, but honestly, we’re more looking forward to another teaser single. Since “Necromancer” got sent our way, it’s been on repeat, which can only conclude that we need another to scratch that particular itch.
