STRICKLAND delivers a heartfelt performance on debut, "Superficial Chaos"

Surpassing all expectations on his debut album Superficial Chaos, the artist known as STRICKLAND has made his artistry a priority. Please keep reading as we share our thoughts on the record, in addition to a background on this emerging artist.

Speaking from personal experience and certain disdains of the world we live in, STRICKLAND has let loose both lyrically and instrumentally on Superficial Chaos. This was our introduction to the artist as a whole, but after listening intently to his first major offering, he’s already proved that he’s more than proficient in multiple different genres and styles. This is 100% an album we’re recommending everyone get into whenever you get the chance.

Directly on the background of this record, the artist has said that “superficiality was a large motivator” for this piece. He says, “the industry has become too close shop and over produced, I just want the music to do the talking". We can confidently back that up that his vision has far succeeded what he initially set out to do. Immediately there’s a rawness and stripped back nature that Superficial Chaos has to offer. Instrumentally speaking, surely there’s plenty of standout moments and packages, but the true beauty of this album lies in its imagery-filled lyrics and heartfelt acoustics. It should also go without saying, but his vocals and the sincerity and warmth that emanates really confounds the fact that his artistic vision is very “anti-production”. It’s been a while since we’ve heard something like this that doesn’t have any hidden motives, rather straightforward feel good music.

Another wonderful factor is that he does a flawless job of bending genres and somehow keeping things sounding like he’s breaking new ground. Sure, there’s plenty of Rock, Pop, Americana, and even some Country elements, but the cohesiveness blurs it all into one massive fusion. We’ve already found this to be an ideal front to back listen, even though there’s standout singles like “Life Is Good” and “Brothers Sisters”. Whether you want to skip around and explore or not, there’s a virtual guarantee that you’ll find something to enjoy overall.
