Stella Mar treats the fans to double single release, "The Way/Mean to You"
Expert production on top of captivating vocals, Stella Mar’s got two new singles that we’ve fallen in love with. Read on for our full review of “The Way/Mean to you”, in addition to a background on this emerging artist.
Currently based out of Seattle, Stella Mar is a pop artist who’s making “bangers for the languidly queer”. Although she was told she wouldn’t make it at the age of 13, she’s so clearly proved them wrong because every solitary moment of music on these latest tracks have proved she’s got what it takes to go to the next level. If this so happens to be your introduction to Stella’s music, welcome to the sounds of your new favorite pop artist.
Staying super consistent in her releases and already putting out her full length debut record this year, the creativity hasn’t stopped flowing because this double single release is just as good as the album. With help from music industry veterans Matthew Wolk (Dempsey Hope, Sol) and Nic Casey (Nicky Buell, Tye Maks) on the songs, they found the recipe for success in utilizing Stella’s best abilities. What you’ll notice right at the forefront are her vocals, because they’re pretty difficult to miss. As impressive as the instrumentation side of things are, we would’ve been pleased with just an a capella version.
Now considering there’s two singles here, we had to compare them back to back, but came to the realization that they flow together quite nicely. Lyrically speaking, they seem to have different storylines and contexts, however the tones aren’t too far off from one to the other. We almost want to treat it like one long song, but we know in the future we’ll be listening separately as they both have their own evocative moods too. With that being said though, she’s delivered big on those pop banger promises and we can fully see 2022 being even more massive for the artist.
In fact, we’ve made it easier than ever to follow along with her, because all the links you need to do so can be found below. Get listening, follow along, and stay up to date!
