Soul Glitch debuts his faithful yet original cover of The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights"
Review by Austin Sher
Shared with the world on December 11th, 2020, Soul Glitch has made his return with an absolutely breathtaking cover of The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights: Please do yourselves a favor and read along with us for our full review of the track, as well as a refresher on the artist.
For those who may be unaware, Soul Glitch aka Nicholas Jarrell Hasty, is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, and producer. Currently based out of Northern California, the artist creates Soultronica (a dynamic fusion of indietronica, electro-pop and synth-pop genres), seamlessly integrating infectious beats with messages of personal and social empowerment. Soul Glitch is about tuning in to our higher selves and finding meaningful purpose in the interdependency of humanity and all living things.”
On “Blinding Lights” specifically, well, Soul Glitch absolutely knocked this one out of the park. Staying faithful in a sense to the original, he has definitely put the signature “Soul Glitch” sound on this cover. Like any cover though, it’s always tough to not want to stay as close as possible to the original, mainly in order to give it your own spin. In this case though, he has taken an already amazing track and made it better.
Now you might be thinking to yourself, how is that possible? Well you’ll have to listen to really get the full effect! Adding in his own impressive vocals, slowing things down a bit, adding in a drumming rhythm section that makes it better than The Weeknd’s (just to name a few). Truly, if this were the single to come out before his, things might be different in the pop sphere.
What we’re really trying to say here is that for the music Soul Glitch is normally making, this is a deviance from his normal sound. You may remember our last review of his single “Our Code”, which was amazing in its own right and worth checking out, but on this track mainly he’s showing a more fun and light side that we’re massive fans of.
To sort of wrap things up, the main point that we’re trying to get across here and be as clear as possible, is that this cover absolutely rocks. There’s no other way of saying it. We love the original, this is an extremely unique take on the original, and you absolutely need to take the time out of your days to take a listen. As much as we love the original music of Soul Glitch, this cover is a fantastic representation of what he’s capable of creating, so we’ll definitely be continuing to keep a close eye on his normal output. Until then, listen, enjoy, and listen again!
