Sharl shares outstanding music video for "Outside" off album, "City Lights"
Serving as the penultimate track off of her debut album City Lights, Sharl has given the music video treatment to the single, “Outside”. Keep reading for a closer look at the song, video, and a much needed background on this talented artist.
Currently based out of Melbourne, Australia, Sharl must surely be still riding the high from her 2022 album, City Lights. In order to keep the hype up, she’s taken one of our favorites off the record, “Outside”, and partnered up with one of the premier K-Pop dance troupes, Hustle Dance Crew. Additionally you’ll be able to find other local artists like Kevin Silvester and Ash from The Clever References. While of course we don’t want to spoil too much, we’re encouraging everyone out there to give both the album and a video a watch/listen.
Showcasing the vision of an “entirely Asian-Australian cast, crew and creative team”, we can confidently claim that collectively their vision was extraordinary. In a world like ours that feels like it’s shifting towards short form content, we’re beyond thrilled that a music video like this not only piqued our interest, but completely held our attention as we rode the roller coaster of emotions that it displayed. The song itself is certainly rooted in disco and pop, which could only mean that the video would include tight choreography and a burst of energy. That’s exactly what happened, but with a cinematic edge that truly enhanced the complexity of the song and the artistic vision. Sharl knew what she wanted at the start and thankfully was able to see that through for something outstanding.
Not to take away the focus from the video, but we loved “Outside” so much that of course we had to give the entirety of City Lights a listen! Some of our short notes were that she’s really put together something cohesive and abstract all at once. While some of the songs have their own personality and quirks, ultimately for us it was a record that deserved to be listened to in a start to finish pattern. If this is your introduction to the artist, start with “Outside”, but return for City Lights.
