Shano Da Boss crafts a laidback slow jam on new single, "Sextures"
Released on February 12th, 2021, Shano Da Boss is back with a feature-filled single, “Sextures”, that we are absolutely loving. Read along with us as we break down the track, as well as a background on the artist as well.
Shannon Lay, also known as Shano Da Boss, is making waves within the Chicago music scene. As a revolutionary within music, he does it all in the form in the singing, rapping, writing, direction, dancing, activism, and even more. Having been mentored by artists such as Reeseynem, Taylor Bennett, and Grammy winner Peter Cottontale, we’re loving what the artist is creating.
Specifically on “Sextures”, Shano enlisted helped from friends on the track like B.E.A.R., Jayy Muzikk, and Ricosview to put together an extremely fine and genre fluid track that is breaking musical norms. What could be labeled as R&B, Hip Hop, or just a straightforward slow jam, the track does an impeccable job of exploring the overall spectrum of each.
On the track though, Shano curated the song specifically to be made for what he calls “Cuddle Season”, to be released right around Valentine’s Day. The point of the song was to not directly profit off of it, rather to “bring back great music & real R&B to this world”. In our opinion, the artist has successfully succeeded at doing so. Not only is the song highly original, but it’s got an insanely high replayability value that makes you just want to listen over and over.
Featuring a deep and booming bass, an impressive vocal range from Shano, and an underlying groove that really does make you want to cuddle, this song is 100% a winner. Truly, it makes us want an entire album of tracks just like this that make you feel something. Seeing as though there was a bit of help creating it, we have to give credit where it's due to those artists as well, but all in all they’ve really knocked it out of the park to create something of beauty. As much as it is a song, it’s a piece of art as well.
Considering that this was the first single of the year to come from the artist, we’re now over here crossing our fingers hoping that more will be on the way. There’s a handful of back discography that we plan to explore, but in the meantime, we’ll be bumping “Sextures”. Enjoy!
