SevenOh!3 Sounds serves up another upbeat instrumental on "Hey. What. That."
Staying in the realm of calm but cranking up the rhythm section for another divine single, SevenOh!3 Sounds has hit the mark again on “Hey. What. That”. Read on for a much closer look into the track, as well as another update on this artist.
Matthew Lee, who is much better known as SevenOh!3 Sounds, has continued the slow rollout of his next record and raised the stakes. This latest endeavor is called “Hey. What. That.” and continues on his releases of embodying relaxation yet has more than enough happening sonically to inundate with everything happening around you. Though we always urge everyone to start from the beginning, this certainly wouldn’t be a bad jumping off point to explore the rest.
Immediately as you hit the play button, we were quickly reminded of the experimental pop project Animal Collective. We say that in the highest of regards considering they’re one of our favorite bands ever and similarly SevenOh!3 Sounds managed to create something reminiscent in terms of production and tone unknowingly. That quickly changes as the resounding synthesizers enter the mix, paired with an “arpeggiated Toy Piano line and dual drum patterns”. At only three minutes in length, he’s got this signature feel that comes through in introducing so many different ideas and thoughts that play out and keep you focused.
Though we mentioned the instant calming feel right at the top, there’s truly a playfulness and almost childlike wonder that cuts through too. It’s hard to explain without listening of course, but lighthearted and airy elements show themselves in a way that projects the artist’s versatility as mentioned in the past. Honestly, whether you’re 5 years old or 50, we can easily see any age range digging into this as the approachability is high and it’s just complex enough to experience it all in one go. The puzzle pieces of this artist’s next album are quickly coming together, and to no surprise, we love how it’s all shaping up.
Please go ahead and give this a listen, follow along, and of course stay up to date because there will be more coverage coming sooner than you think.
