Leading “Something To Cry About” with her silky smooth vocals, Savanna Blu is one of the few who’s actually putting her own spin on the Indie Folk genre. As a singer and songwriter, it’s never an easy task to reinvent a sound, or even create something original, however on her latest musical output she’s managed to do just that. Immediately she sucked us in and we confidently think everyone out there is going to thoroughly enjoy this one.
On the background of the track, Savanna’s lyricism “lays down some hard truths surrounding love & all its glory-- and with that, all its misery”. Love will never not be a difficult topic to experience, let alone write about, but this artist has let us in on a personal experience that speaks volumes once you connect all the dots. Just released on February 25th, 2022, this marks Savanna Blu’s first single release in over six months, but we could instantly feel that passion that’s burgeoning behind every moment of it all.
Instrumentally speaking, it’s actually quite minimalistic in that there’s not too much going on sonically. In our opinion, it’s the best stylistic choice she could have possibly made because it actively entices the listener to slow down and listen to what she’s saying. Any additional production effects may have come off as gimmicky, but in this case, all we really needed was a subtle acoustic guitar and Savanna to give us chills with those vocals and her serene delivery.
Considering this was our introduction to her discography, she’s made enough of an impression on us to do a deep dive and see what we’ve been missing out on. As she’s proved herself as a seriously impressive songwriter and vocalist, our guess is that there’s a ton of gems that have left to be uncovered.
