Sam Himself excels on indie rock stunner, "Golden Days"
Serving up his second fantastic single of 2022, Sam Himself’s latest “Golden Days” is an utter beauty from beginning to end. Keep reading for an in-depth look into the track, as well as a much needed background on this artist.
In anticipation of his second full length record (out early 2023), this Brooklyn-based artist named Sam Himself has just shared an inspired mix of classic sounding indie rock titled “Golden Days”. Right from the start, it’s jam packed with emotion through his expressive vocals, filled to the brim with dynamic synths, and truly feels emotional through the delivery. This was our introduction to Sam’s music, but we’ve left our initial listen as massive fans, so please go ahead and check out this song when you get a free moment.
Reunited with his longtime producer and friend Daniel Schlett (Iggy Pop, The War on Drugs), the two collaborators left nothing else to the imagination in terms of creating something that both feels super modern and has plenty of glimmers of the past as well. Through four straight minutes of runtime, the listener is immediately immersed into this world that feels nostalgic and sincere, which we can directly attribute to Sam’s vocals. There’s something so warm and inviting about his voice, and especially so in the way that this song was mixed. They’re not directly right up in the front, rather they act as another instrument slowly guiding your listen as you get to the climax of it all.
With this being the second track to get teased off the new record, we also took the opportunity to listen to “Never Let Me Go”. It was a perfect return to form and there’s just enough sonic differences to let you know that while this record is most likely going to take some liberties within the sound, all in all it’s going to have that coveted album experience that feels long gone. “Golden Days” honestly is everything we wanted in a rock track from 2022 and we hope to get some more teaser singles before the big day in the new year.
