RYAL have been on our radar for quite some time now, but with the fresh release of their latest EP The End Is Near Here, they’re solidifying themselves as one of our favorites. Keep reading as we share our thoughts on the album, in addition to an update on the music duo.
RYAL, the synth-electro duo known for their relentless creativity, pushes boundaries and delves into the question that lingers in the minds of many: Are these the end of times? In their forthcoming EP, aptly titled The End Is Near Here, RYAL takes listeners on a captivating sonic journey, combining their signature synth and electro sound with unexpected elements of hip-hop. This compilation stands out as a unique offering in their discography, showcasing their versatility and fearless exploration of new musical territories.
Opening the EP with a “lyrical satire bop” entitled "Decent People," RYAL sets the tone with a track that playfully addresses the antics of, as they aptly put it, "dick-headed people." The duo effortlessly weaves together elements reminiscent of Donna Summers' disco energy and Jarvis Cocker's Pulp, resulting in a dynamic composition. "Decent People" captures the essence of RYAL's ability to craft catchy hooks while incorporating their distinctive synth-driven soundscape.
The EP's opener, "The End," draws inspiration from influential artists such as Beyoncé, Noga Erez, and Blondie. RYAL skillfully blends their electronic foundation with hip-hop undertones, creating a fusion of genres. "The End" exudes an undeniable energy and urgency, reflecting the uncertainty and existential ponderings of our time. With its pulsating beats, hypnotic melodies, and thought-provoking lyrics, this track serves as the standout anthem of the EP.
Right in the middle, RYAL switches things up seamlessly with "A New Thing," a moment that evokes echoes of Harry Styles and MGMT. "A New Thing" is a testament to their artistic vision and their capacity to craft songs that resonate with the listener long after the final note fades away.
Throughout The End Is Near Here, RYAL showcases their fearlessness in exploring new sonic territories while staying true to their synth-electro roots. Once again, it quickly becomes undeniable that everything these two turns into gold. We’ve been in love with their sound for years now, and with their constant exploration and experimentation, it feels like there’s no end in sight.
