Rosina B. Solomon delivers a nostalgic sounding debut EP, "Intro"

After three years of hard work, Rosina B. Solomon’s debut EP which is aptly titled Intro is out and it’s downright fantastic. Please read on for our full in-depth review of the record, in addition to a background on this artist.

Currently based out of Toronto, Rosina B. Solomon is a Canadian-Ethiopian singer and songwriter who’s had an immense passion dating back to when she was 11 years old. Delivering up a cosmic blend of soul, funk, with an R&B base attached to it, her debut to the world Intro is a passionate piece that we’ve thoroughly enjoyed giving multiple listens to thus far. If this is your “introduction’ to the artist, we strongly urge everyone out there to dig right in.

Through 6 total tracks that run around 24 minutes or so, she’s leaned in heavily to the lyrical experience for the listener that allows them to get to know her through a series of meaningful singles. Although her personal music influences stem from artists like Pearl Jam and other 90’s MTV greats, she’s taken those inspirations and still carved out something quite inventive here. Looking into specific tracks like “Kick It” and the closer “I Need (Fulfillment)”, one resounding theme is just how reflective yet introspective she can be when telling these stories. There’s a real warmness and inviting nature to her style, but really the entire album experience that she’s crafted is like one big hug from start to finish.

There’s definitely a modern take on an always evolving R&B genre presented here, but you can’t stray away from that nostalgic feeling she’s infused with. It’s not something necessarily that can be learned, but the stylistic direction and certain production elements that were included were thoughtful in that regard. For instance, if “Jaded” were released sometime in the late 90’s or early 2000’s, it would undoubtedly be a chart topper. That’s not to say it’s not capable now, but honestly, the entirety of Intro feels like a glamorous blast from the past in the best way possible.

Once again, we sincerely can’t wait for everyone to give this a focused listen from beginning to end. We’ve provided the most important links below in order to listen, follow along, and of course to stay tuned for hopefully plenty more on the way from Rosina B. Solomon.
