RockCounsellor shows versatility on double single release, "Laura/Sunny Apocalypse"

Packed with energy and featuring a ton of decade spanning sounds, RockCounsellor’s latest double single “Laura/Sunny Apocalypse” is out and ready to be listened to! Read on for our full review of the tracks, as well as a background on the artist.

Currently based out of Camden, England, RockCounsellor is actually the alias of Thoby Burton. As a singer, songwriter, and addiction therapist, this double release is his first since last year’s debut record, MusicTherapy. Continuing on in his collaboration with producer, multi-instrumentalist, and composer Richard Campbell, the two have come together once again to create something truly outstanding on these songs.

Kicking things right off with our review of “Laura”, this song immediately showered us with all the positivity and good feelings in the world due to its upbeat nature and almost 80’s inspired attitude. Grasping the listener as soon as the track begins, there’s a great deal of varied instrumentation here that keeps things sounding fresh and is guaranteed to pique nearly any music listener’s interest. The vocals are on point, the production is of course outstanding, but ultimately the song has a high replayability factor. We know for the absolute fact we’ll be coming back to this one frequently.

On the other hand, the B-side “Sunny Apocalypse” was a total shift in sound and style compared to “Laura”. Lyrically speaking, it was certainly on the relatable side due to its COVID mentions, however it also showed off just how versatile RockCounsellor could be with his inspirations. If this happens to be your introduction to his music as a whole, these are definitely two perfect songs to sink your teeth into to get the full feel for what you could expect. Seeing as though this the follow up to MusicTherapy, we’re quite excited to go back and listen to see just how different the approach was on these singles.

All in all though, there’s a ton to love here and plenty going on for us to confidently give our seal of approval for you to check them out. Keep an open mind, get ready to have a fun time listening, and make sure to follow along with RockCounsellor to keep up with everything else that’s in the works. Enjoy!
