Roc Kartel delivers the goods on latest track, "High Road"
Following up his 2020 EP, Roc Kartel is back and better than ever with the release of his latest single, “High Road”. Read along with us as we break down our impressions on the track, as well as a background on the artist.
Jabari Gibbons, also known as Rock Kartel, is a Hip Hop Artist and Songwriter whose sound is breaking the mold of mainstream music. Taking influence from acts like Michael Jackson, Dr. Dre, Nas, and more, his pursuit of music has taken place since a young age. Dating back to 2011 is when he decided to pursue a full time career in music, and at this point, we’re thankful he did.
On his 2020 EP TIme is Now 2, Roc Kartel made incredible strides as both an artist and a lyricist. With his presentation and execution on this newest single “High Road”, he truly is cementing himself as an artist who’s daring to be different within his sound. While the song was just released today on April 2nd, 2021, we know for the absolute fact that we’ll personally have this bumping much longer than the upcoming weekend.
Filled with a grandiose sound, stellar production, and hard hitting lyricism, this feels like the obvious continuation and evolution of Time is Now 2. While you can hear the subtle changes within the delivery and rhyme scheme, we have to wonder if there’s a possibility that it came from the same recording sessions. If anything, it doesn’t really matter, because at this point we’ll take all the new Roc Kartel we can get.
With his first release of the year coming at the beginning of April, our hopes and wishes are that this is the start of another EP or album cycle. Seeing as though artists are heading in the direction of singular single releases, it might just be that, however a teaser like this has us genuinely pumped to see what happens in the coming months for the artist.
As his discography continues to deepen and get better with age, it’s now our musical homework to dig back from the beginning and see how much progression there’s really been. It’s no surprise, but we’re obviously going to recommend “High Road” be one of your future listens, but also to take the time and check out what else Roc Kartel has created in the past. It provides a base for the music you’ll be hearing today.
