Robbie Rapids bring the funk on latest single, "April's Gonna Rain"
On only their third overall single titled “April’s Gonna Rain”, Robbie Rapids are continuing to experiment with their sound and we’re loving it! Please read on for a closer look at the track, in addition to a background on the band.
Pivoting to more of an upbeat funk sound, we’re welcoming Robbie Rapids’ latest single “April’s Gonna Rain” with wide open arms. Adding in some soulful vocals reminiscent of Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, the band has truly rounded out this complete listen with imagery-filled lyricism and a stellar production that will have us coming back for more. If this is your introduction to the band, you’ve found them at the ideal point before they take off.
On the background of the song, ultimately “April’s Gonna Rain” is about “ a crush from years back who was engaged to be married”. Says Robbie, “Maybe she had cold feet or lots of emotional issues, either way she entrusted me with all her drama”. Lyrically speaking, they absolutely do a wonderful job of painting a picture of the scene, almost like you’re there in the situation. Performed by Robbie and David Lavene, the two have also created this striking instrumentation that fits the vibe and the atmosphere of the single to a tee. Not to spoil a whole lot, but the guitar solo they squeezed in there is heaven to a music lover’s ears, that’s well worth the listen on its own.
Now considering that the band has only shared two prior songs, they’ve already given us a taste of the past and what we think is on the way. While we hope to hear more experimentation which is most likely coming, we’re definite fans of the funk rock style. It feels like Robbie and David are having the time of their lives and legitimately the passion and love flows through their fingertips for the listeners to enjoy.
