Roam Like Ghosts put forth striking sophomore record, "...to that place you call home"
Put out on Bandcamp on January 1st, but seeing its official release today on February 26th, 2021, Roam Like Ghosts are back with their sophomore record, ...to that place you call home. Do yourselves a favor and read along with us as we share our thoughts on the album, as well as a background on the artists behind the project.
Made up of Mathew Daugherty and Bucky Fairfax, Roam Like Ghosts are an acoustic duo consisting of two beyond talented singer songwriters. While they’re not in the same place geographically, they manage to virtually make it work when it comes to the important duties of the band. Combining their love of classic rock, grunge, and 90’s alternative rock, the duo have crafted a truly enjoyable listening experience.
For those active on Bandcamp, the opportunity to dip your toes into ...to that place you call home has been available for quite some time now. However, if you haven’t, there really has never been a better time to dig into the music of Roam Like Ghosts, specifically on their latest. Mixing up the genres they love most and injecting a hefty dose of their signature sound has led to a wholesome and lyrically diverse record that we haven’t been able to shut off since it crossed our paths.
According to the band, they’ve “expanded their production but maintained the pure elements of their acoustic sound delivering a reflective and emotive mix of songs. The album was partly written and mostly recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic and lock down, which made recording all that more of a challenge and rewarding for the duo.” Like so many who have accomplished the near impossible feat of recording during these times, especially with distance in between, we have to commend the two on a job well done. You’d never be able to tell there were complications in the process by listening.
As for the music, well they’ve really outdone themselves here. The point here isn’t to tell you to listen to specific songs, rather to sit down and enjoy it from start to finish and form your opinions. Our opinion is that this is a record well worth listening to, especially in a focused environment. As much as the instrumentation and atmosphere created is something to be applauded, the context in which the stories come from are a drastically different element. Whether you’re more of a “lyrics” or “sound” type of listener, you’ll without a doubt be experiencing the best of both worlds here.
Seeing as though it's been a little over three years since their debut album was released, we had to go and give that a listen as well obviously. As soon as you’re finished with their latest, we also recommend listening to the initial changes of where they started and the overall evolution of their sound. It is quite apparent, but you can also hear how they’ve come into themselves over the years.
With this all being said though, it should really go without saying that this one is a winner. Kick off your weekend with a front to back listen of this album, you surely will not be disappointed. Enjoy!
