Ricky Green and Danny Traves collaborate on heartwarming new single, "Can't Let You Go"
Review by Austin Sher
After the release of their EP back in May, the power duo of Ricky Green and Danny Traves are back with a heartwarming new single, “Can’t Let You Go”. Read along as we deep dive into our thoughts on the song, as well as the partnership between these two artists.
Ricky Green & Danny Traves are a songwriting cousin duo hailing from both Connecticut, USA (Ricky) and London, England (Danny). Ricky generally takes on the role of writing the lyrics and lead vocals, and guitars are written by Ricky Green while Danny Traves writes all remaining backing tracks and vocals. The two come from different musical backgrounds, Danny Traves is a classically trained composer going to Trinity Labon Conservatoire for music whereas Ricky Green has little musical background and is mostly a self taught musician who began writing songs in college. He also had a brief stint as the rhythm guitarist in the band "Alex From Georgia".
You’ll be able to hear it for yourselves, but their musical influences include bands such as The Beatles, The Eagles, James Taylor, and Oasis. The two each bring their own unique talents and experiences to the music they make. Recently the duo released their debut EP "Across The Pond Pt 1" on May 21st, 2020. Thankfully though, on August 21st, 2020, "Across The Pond Pt 2" is set to release, which will be a 5 song EP written by the boys.
Now that we’ve familiarized ourselves with the background of this musical project, we’ve got to let you know much we enjoyed this song. The immediate soft acoustics invoked a calming effect that not many artists are putting out these days. Everyone’s trying to differentiate in their own way, but there’s nothing wrong with keeping it calm and serene, just like they’ve done here. Ricky’s vocals fit in the overall atmosphere of the song so unbelievably well. Paired with the guitar playing from both of them, this is the type of song that can be listened to at any time of the day. Waking up, driving on the highway, or winding down, it’s got that smooth sound that’s so difficult to replicate.
We couldn’t get through the review without mentioning the subtle piano playing that’s happening in the background. It’s audible, obviously not at the forefront, but adds so much to the song in terms of variation. While we love country-esque songs like these, a bit of diverse instrumentation always pumps it up in a way that keeps it interesting. Rounding out the track, all elements included from Ricky and Danny were really fantastic. We highly recommend and encourage you to listen!
