Rekka & King Thayo craft a new 4/20 anthem, "Light One Up"
Officially released on April 20th, 2022, Rekka and company celebrated the holiday with a wonderfully crafted single titled “Light One Up”. Please read on for an in-depth look at the track, in addition to a background on the artist.
Based out of Portland, Rekka is a female emcee that’s just released a 4/20 anthem for the ages called “Light One Up”. Collaborating with international artist King Thayo on the single, all the artists represented here have come together to create something both memorable and filled to the brim with good vibes. Detailing her appreciation for marijuana culture and bringing even more awareness to the cause, we know for the absolute fact we’ll be listening to this song year round, no matter the date.
On the background of it all, Rekka says, “I’ve always been in love with the scenery and the amazing marijuana produced in the area, so I decided it was time to make a song about it”. While the inspiration behind it all isn’t overtly complicated, it doesn’t necessarily need to be in order to craft something that’s both meaningful and unbelievably catchy. We’ve always been big fans of reggae, and while the genre itself is steeped in marijuana culture, it’s truly nice to see artists today continuing to make music just like this that holds true to its roots of the past. Lyrically, “Light One Up” is straightforward and presents the message right from the start, but where the song shines the brightest is in its vibrant production, heartfelt vocal deliveries, and the positive atmosphere that it exudes as a whole.
Considering this was our introduction to Rekka’s music, we’re extremely interested to see what else she’s put out over the years. We always appreciate timely releases like these and sincerely hope that she’s got more cooking in the proverbial musical kitchen. “Light One Up” has been nothing but good times and smiles over here through our now multiple listens, so we can only imagine the other gems hiding deep in her discography.
