Polly Windham bares her soul on imaginative record, "American Daughter"
Detailing the most intimate moments of her life, Polly Windham has just shared a brand new record titled American Daughter. Don’t miss it! Read on for our full review of the record, in addition to a background on this talented artist.
Originally from Wichita, Kansas, Polly Windham has effortlessly infused those Americana roots into her silky smooth album, American Daughter. Bringing her signature charm and intelligent lyrics that have led to imagery-filled stories about her life, we immediately got sucked into the greatness that is her latest musical output. Sincerely, we can’t wait for all the readers to click the play button on this beauty.
Taking the listeners on a literal journey through her life, Polly has broken down her time in the army from “the road to basic combat training to life as a soldier”. Influenced by some of the greats like Fiona Apple, Ani Difranco, and Tracy Bonham, Polly has still brought a slew of originality and personal style to legitimately every song on this 12-track record. Starting slow on the opener “Hell & Highwater”, the album deliberately picks up as the listen continues. There’s a certain intensity as well that shows itself about midway through.
We could sit here and talk about Polly’s dynamic vocals for literal hours, and you’ll notice them of course, but so much of what we enjoyed about this album was the cohesiveness and flow it had. It’s telling a story that feels like it’s chronological in the sense that she opens up about herself more and more as American Daughter goes on. Paired with a rock-centric instrumentation that keeps things quite interesting, we honestly can’t even pick out any negatives or provide critiques to make this listen better.
As this was our first introduction to Polly’s music, it’s going to be quite the adventure to see how she follows this one up. Hopefully not too long from now, but hearing her stories makes it feel like we know her personally at this point. The entire package of American Daughter is something simple in storytelling, but historic and innovative in its overall delivery. Plain and simple, we loved it!
