Overdrive crafts his own world on instrumental record, "Sui Generis"
Dramatic and sensationally dynamic, Overdrive has an all new instrumental record called Sui Generis that we’re loving. Please read on for our full review on the record, as well as a background on the artist.
Created entirely on a computer, this is a debut record that’s equal parts emotional and innovative. From the mind of Brazilian pianist and guitarist Fabio Prestes de Olivieria, his solo project called Overdrive has delivered big in unimaginable ways. Essentially made to be a soundtrack for video games, movies, or TV shows, you could honestly put this music into any serious situation. Without a doubt, we can’t wait for everyone to give it a spin!
Inspired by the instrumental works from masterpieces like Conan The Barbarian and the master John Williams, Overdrive has still completely managed to create something new in the world of lyricless music. We instantly find that whenever a fully instrumental album comes our way, it needs to be impressive as ever due to missing that element of voice, however this has over delivered in the sense that he clearly had a vision for what needed to be made. Mixing together classical elements in the style but infusing modern technology through his computer, this is in a league of its own.
At only 9 songs spanning right around 18 minutes or so, Sui Generis could be implanted to real life situations or legitimately be played as background music to whatever game you’re playing. Specific tracks like “In Vino Veritas” and “Alma Mater” were standouts for us, but really each and every song holds its own emotion and love in the fact that you can feel the love in all of it. For a debut record, it’s such a refreshing feeling that music just like this is being made in today’s landscape. We overwhelmingly enjoyed it and are urging everyone out there to dive in immediately.
