Nightly Gatherings shares a tremendous debut record, "Tethered Together"
Covering a wide variety of genres yet carving out something new for himself, the project of Nightly Gatherings has just released a full length record, Tethered Together. Please read on for our full review of the album, in addition to a background on the artist.
From the mind of Connor Johnson comes the music of his moniker, Nightly Gatherings. Taking inspiration from Porter Robinson, Phoebe Bridgers, ODESZA, and so many more, any listener could easily pick something out from this stunner of a record to focus on and enjoy. We couldn’t help but fall in love with it and confidently think you will too.
While Tethered Together could be described as experimental indie pop, it’s shown itself to be so much more with a slew of subtlety showing itself with repeated listens. For this California-based artist, he’s effortlessly put together a wall of sound that ranges from atmospheric electronic instrumentals to unique vocal passages spread throughout. At 14 total songs, spanning right around 43 minutes, this is the type of album that will hold your attention with ease. It’s easy to have your mind wander during any album listen, but we had us on the edge of our seats waiting for more.
Our sincere recommendation would be to give this a start to finish listen, however there were some isolated singles that jumped out as favorites. For example, “Satellite”, “Whimsical Waters”, and “Waiting For Something to Happen” were instant standouts that made us put them on repeat over and over. Another suggestion we’ll make, and you’ll probably take this cue for yourself, is to crank this one up loud for the full effect. One of the standouts was the production as a whole, so it would definitely be best to not miss out on some of the finer parts.
With that being said though, Tethered Together was a seriously magnificent listen that deserves your time and attention. Without a doubt we’ll be following along with his musical career in the future, but in the meantime, you must check this one out.
