New Music Friday - Week of 5/22/2020

Article by Austin Sher

Another week has passed on Planet Earth and coincidentally, another week of fantastic releases have emerged from musicians far and wide across the globe. Time to dig in!

As the world continues to spiral into complete madness and lunacy on a near daily basis, at least we’ve all still got music releases to look forward and hopefully future classics are being released before our eyes. I’ve mentioned it before, but the biggest positive to come from quarantining ourselves has been the immense amount of free time to actually sit with an album, uninterrupted, and to pick and choose just exactly what fits our mood.

With the endless amount of live streams being announced everyday, it’s almost as if music as a whole has stepped up to the next level. Artists small and large are struggling on a daily basis to make ends meet with no real end in sight as to when exactly they’ll all be able to get back onto stages like they were meant to be. More established artists are faring well for the most part, but you do have to consider the up and comers, who were on the up and up before all this started who have thus been stalled in their tracks.

Even more-so, the small and independent music venues scattered across the globe who are being hurt financially and emotionally with the loss of any type of income. There’s no streaming numbers to count on, album sales to estimate, or really anything to look forward to from the perspective of a music venue. Sure, we’ve seen small strides in terms of drive in concerts, nugs.tv who are charging for livestreams, and other outlets who are finding their way through the craziness. All in all, we’re definitely in a weird part of life that I hope most of us are finding a silver lining. Rant over.

Let’s get to the music now! Do yourself a favor and check out these album and track releases that came out between May 16th and May 22nd, 2020!
