Collaborating with some of music’s biggest up and comers, Naud has beyond impressed us with his latest record, Kool Lab 1. We are loving it! Keep reading for our in-depth look at the album, as well as a background on this talented artist.
For those somehow out of the loop, Naud is a French artist creating an incredibly diverse mix of genres, styles, and sounds, but specifically on his all new album Kool Lab 1. With the help of Edgar Mauer, Margo, Malakrane and Toujours Là, all collaborators put their best foot forward in creating something that’s jam packed with endless grooves, ingenious rhythms, and a massive dose of freshness. We’re highly recommending all the readers take the time out of their day to give this a focused listen.
Described by Naud as “pro bedroom music”, meaning it was written and recorded at home but comes off as commercial quality, we wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment. Right off the bat, you’ll quickly notice just how wonderfully polished and silky smooth it sounds. Putting the message of it all aside, it really is a fantastic feat in production quality giving the background of how it all came together. Specific songs like “Mosquito Dance” and “Stranded” felt like particular highlights in that regard, but honestly you’ll find gems scattered throughout the entirety of Kool Lab 1.
Lyrically speaking, the artist becomes quite vulnerable as he details a “reflection of his life”. However, he manages to do so in this colorful light that downright feels optimistic and a look at a better future. We can only detail so much as the lyricism is split between English and French, but undoubtedly you can feel the immense amount of passion and love that went into it all. Specifically though, the way that his vocals absolutely soar in both range and versatility, it’s extremely impressive to experience such sonic shifts in the delivery. For the most part this record is upbeat and vibrant, however there are some slower paced tracks that acted as a nice breather to the more explosive moments. Naud has definitely succeeded in creating that “album experience” that feels like a long forgotten achievement.
