Movie Club debut astonishing instrumental record, "Black Flamingo"

Debuted to the world officially on November 27th, 2020, Movie Club are back with an incredibly diverse new record, Black Flamingo. Read along with us as we share our thoughts on the album, in addition to an insight on the band as well.
Consisting of Jessamyn Violet on Drums and Vince Cuneo on Guitar, as well as a handful of artists to feature themselves on Black Flamingo, Movie Club have an absolute instrumental hit on their hands with the release of this album. Based out of Venice, California, this instrumental rock duo have released three EPs since forming in 2018, honing their sound and building an international following. Black Flamingo features special guests on several songs, including Foo Fighter Rami Jaffee on keys, Jessy Greene (P!NK) on violin, and Tim Lefebvre (Davie Bowie’s Blackstar) on bass.
Putting aside the stellar cast of extras to be added to the record, Jessamyn and Vince certainly hold their own in terms of their respective instruments. Throughout the 13 tracks featured, each one is absolutely swirling with creativity and uniquity that shows off not only how talented each of them are, but how so many sounds can come together to create a truly complete record.
Our first listen happened to be on their insanely cool marbled black vinyl, which only added to the allure of the music. Having only listened to the singles released prior to the album, we had a decent idea of what would be delivered on a full run through, but by the end of it, we were certainly more impressed than we thought we would have been. Not to knock the band on the singles, but so many of the unreleased singles resonated with us almost immediately.
While it would be close to impossible to pick favorites, there were still some standouts on our multiple run throughs. Specifically, the title track “Black Flamingo”, “Lazy Jacks”, and “Torpedo” were some that had true jaw dropping capabilities as to what we were hearing. With an overall heavy sound featured throughout the record, we can confidently say that lovers of music who tend to air on the softer side of things will still plenty they can resonate with on Black Flamingo.
We’re thrilled this band came into our lives when it did and we’ll absolutely be following the trajectory of where they’re headed. For now though, kick off your weekend with a full listen of the album, you will not regret it.
