Mila Nabours talks Music, Acting, & beyond in new Q&A
Acting, singing, and so many other projects in the works, what can’t Mila Nabours do? We got to find out in a fantastic Q&A with the multi-hyphenate artist who took the time to break down what’s going on in her life. Learn everything you need to know about Mila below!
WWAM: You've played significant roles in the Dhar Mann series and films like "Feet of Fire" and "Nina Saiza." How do these roles differ, and what have they taught you about your craft?
Mila Nabours: Different roles differ based on their intention, backstory, personality, etc. It’s so special to be able to unlock and explore different characters, because you get to utilize different forms of your creativeness and go beyond your comfort zone. To me, those two factors are the key components for growth and for getting even more in touch with your acting and expression.
WWAM: As a recording artist with a background in classical music, how have your parents influenced your musical journey?
Mila Nabours: My parents are huge influences on my musical journey, as they are incredible artists and expert musicians. Their technical training combined with their profound artistry is so inspiring and insightful when I’m going through the process of creating a song. The way they’re able to suggest harmony ideas, help me enhance a melody, and even record instrumental parts for the track, has been such a blessing.
WWAM: Can you tell us more about your EP "VISION" and the inspiration behind songs like "Hypnosis," "New Moon," and "Catch Me"?
Mila Nabours: My EP "Vision" is about self-discovery and growth, capturing the ups and downs we all go through. One of the songs, "Catch Me," is especially about letting go and having a good time, no matter what fears or subconscious doubts we might have. I believe these themes are really relatable because everyone, no matter their age, deals with confusion and struggles. But, despite that, we can still focus on the positive and embrace the light we feel inside. Through "Vision," I hope to connect with others and remind them that we can find joy and growth even in tough times.
WWAM: You've performed live in various locations, including NYC, Milan, and The Cayman Islands. What has been your most memorable performance, and why?
Mila Nabours: I’m so grateful to have been able to perform in these beautiful shows around the world, and they all hold a special place in my heart. I’d say my most memorable performance was honoring the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth during the week of her funeral, at London Fashion Week. It was so surreal being in London during this solemn time, but I’m lucky to have dedicated my song “Memory” in honor of her for the performance.
WWAM: You lend your voice to bring awareness to autism through the charity SPREADING THE LOVE. What drew you to this cause, and what does your involvement entail?
Mila Nabours: I’m drawn to organizations like these, that are showing their passion regarding helping, in not only words, but in actions, to making a difference and supporting a good cause. My involvement includes raising awareness, participating in charity events, and contributing to fundraisers.
WWAM: Outside of your professional life, you enjoy long-boarding, biking, and making comedic content. How do these activities help you unwind and stay grounded?
Mila Nabours: Activities like biking are a great way to relieve mental and physical stress, which is one of the best ways, in my opinion, to decompress and let go of some tension. Different kinds of activities satisfy different needs, but when it comes to decompressing, I try to partake in things that don’t work me up or stress me out mentally.
WWAM: With a successful career in both acting and music, what are some of your goals for the future?
Mila Nabours: My goal is to one day go on my own tour and share my music with more of the world. I’ve always loved performing, and being able to perform my own creations and express myself through songs I’ve actually written, is something I’ve been absolutely loving so far, and want to continue. When it comes to acting, I hope to take on more interesting characters and roles, as well as hopefully star in my own movie or show one day.
WWAM: Looking back on your diverse career, what has been the most significant moment or turning point for you, and why?
Mila Nabours: I think my biggest turning point throughout my journey so far is the comparison of how I used to feel while on stage performing, vs now. It used to be such a surreal, but very nerve wracking experience for me, and I wouldn’t be able to freely let go and perform. When I go on stage now, I make a point to really be in the moment and connect with the audience, as well as be in touch with myself. I see it as a form of freedom now, rather than something nerve inducing. Again, I’ve always loved it, but I’m just able to enjoy it in a calmer way now.
