Melissa Gordon outdoes herself on beautiful debut, "Songs From The Coven"

Fresh off the release of a seriously outstanding debut record, Melissa Gordon’s Songs From The Coven is bursting with sincerity and pure artistry. We love it! Keep reading for an in-depth look into the album, as well as a background on this talented artist.

Currently holding it down in Queens, New York, Melissa Gordon is a songwriter, singer, and guitarist who’s not shy when it comes to baring it all lyrically and making those real connections. While she’s certainly got a growing discography, her biggest piece of work so far is this record titled Songs From The Coven that’s relatively stripped back instrumentally, but highlights the freshness of her vocals and simplicities from her acoustic guitar. Without a doubt, we’re urging everyone out there to give it a spin.

Coming in at 10 total tracks, spanning right around the 30 minute mark, our initial impression of the album was truly how warm and inviting it felt. Due to its lack of unnecessary production effects or gimmicks, you’re getting the best of Melissa Gordon at her most vulnerable, focusing directly on personal experiences and situations that have occurred. As soon as you hit the play button, there really is an interesting atmosphere that the album presents, almost as if you’re sitting around a campfire just taking in the moment as she does her thing. She’s said it’s her goal to “take listeners on a journey where they can experience meaningful moments of connection”, and undoubtedly that’s the first thing that hit us when the opener “Got Our Share” wrapped up.

Lyrically, we think it’s best for listeners to attempt to connect the dots within her words, ultimately interpreting it as she paints a picture in your mind. There really is only so much to focus on considering the rawness of it all, but seeing as though we’re also all about the instrumentation, you’ll probably find yourself hypnotized by her guitar. Specific tracks like “California” or “Don’t You Wanna Love Me” suck you in with a wide range of styles like simple strumming or fingerpicking too. We 100% foresee ourselves coming back to this record in times of needed relaxation, calm, or generally kicking back for a nice evening.

With all that being said, do yourselves a favor and please check out the links below to listen, follow along, and of course to stay tuned for much more on the way.
