Meg Smith delivers big on anthemic single, "You Make Bad Things Not Suck"

One of the most instantaneously catchy songs we’ve heard this year, Meg Smith has completely nailed it on her latest, “You Make Bad Things Not Suck”. Keep reading for a closer look into the track, in addition to a background on the artist.

For those somehow out of the loop, Meg Smith is a pop singer and songwriter who has been delivering bop after bop over the last two years. As a prolific songwriter who infuses insight and personal experiences into her music, you get a glimpse into her life as she slowly shares the specifics. Her latest “You Make Bad Things Not Suck” is almost a dead giveaway to what the song is about, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s downright anthemic listen after listen.

Currently based out of Brooklyn, New York, she’s been actively growing her fan base, which isn’t surprising given the high quality of her quickly growing discography. For us, we were particularly fond of this one on the initial listen due to its borderline between mainstream pop and indie rock. Her vocal delivery sort of blurs the lines between the two, but the crunchy and powerful punkish instrumentation propping everything up gives this song a necessary grit and attitude. The story itself is generally easy to follow, but in today’s day and age, we truly need “that person” around to make things not suck. Whether it be going around doing mundane tasks or a significant other who just gets you.

Beyond that though, there’s a real anthemic vibe as mentioned, basically meaning it’s not hard to envision yourself in a sea of 1000’s belting this out, feeling that unison with other concert goers. There are very few artists nowadays that are cranking out these sort of instant hits that still actually have sincerity and passion behind them, but Meg Smith has over delivered in that realm. We can see ourselves singing this in the car, having it on at a BBQ, or playing it when we need a nice pick me up of energy. The versatility is endless and that’s what we feel makes it so great.
