MannyJR debuts his flawless and emotional new EP, Toxic

Review by Austin Sher

Straight out of Queens, NY comes MannyJR., back with his brand new EP that we can’t stop listening to, titled Toxic. Read along as we break down how we felt about the music, as well as a bit of background behind the artist himself.

Released on May 13, 2020, MannyJR. has shared his first complete piece of work, Toxic. Based off of the influences that were listed (Lauryn Hill, LL Cool J, Wale, J. Cole, Nas and Kendrick Lamar), we knew that we were going to be in for a real treat. The combination of those six artists sounded like a recipe for success, so we knew that the music would surely not disappoint. Coming in at six songs and 19 minutes, Toxic grabbed our attention from the opening intro and had us glued until the end of the hard hitting closer, “Relapse”.

After listening from front to back a few separate times, it was truly difficult to pick a favorite song, because they were all so strong. That’s one of the best parts of EP’s, instead of bloating an album with 15-20 filler tracks, six is the perfect number to keep that quality high. MannyJR. certainly kept his foot on the gas pedal when creating these songs, and the talent absolutely shows.

Toxic takes us on a journey into MannyJR.'s mind telling an intricate story about love, life, and navigating his emotions as a man. Each track has its own sound and takes the listener into a different world and a different side of MannyJR. Not only are the beats consistent and original throughout, but the lyrics and flow are really what shine the most. The overall delivery of each line is so emotional and convincing, all the while being backed up by a consistent instrumentation style that puts him in a different lane than the rest.

Needless to say, we truly loved what we heard and can’t wait to follow MannyJR.’s career closely, as we really think this EP is going to be the jumping off point for something much bigger.
