Maestreaux shows off in a big way on smooth new album, "Blaq"
Review by Austin Sher
Released today, Maestreaux has officially released his fantastic new album, titled Blaq. Read along with us as we break down our thoughts on the record, in addition to a bit of background on the artist as well.
Originally from Oklahoma, the artist is mainly sticking to rapping, but also works a little bit on the production side of things within hip hop. As a lover of art and music, his influences are mainly from East Coast and Dirty South projects. You’ll definitely be able to pick out those influences while listening to this newest album. Let us hopefully be the first to say it, we absolutely adored what we heard on the record.
At a track length of 9, it was honestly difficult to pick out a favorite track. While we don’t want to give away too much, because we’d prefer you made up your mind for yourself, we specifically enjoyed the album opener, “Pitch Blaq”, “Hollow”, and “187”. For us, these ones stood out the most because it felt true to the influences, Maestreaux also shined super bright within his flow and overall production.
While this was our first foray into music from the artist, it’s certainly not going to be our last. If he’s putting out top notch quality records like this so early in his career, there’s no telling what could be released in the coming years. Seriously, if you’re a fan of rap, hip hop, or just good music in general, please do yourselves a favor and listen.
For us, it’s so nice to see artists that are putting their all into their work right now. It’s so difficult to stay motivated, but the fact that Maestreaux was able to create goodness in these times, well, we’re just happy we’re here to be listening.
