Released recently on March 12th, 2021, Lij has put forth his second stunning single of the year, titled “WAIT”. Read along with us for our full review of the track, in addition to a background and insight on the artist.

Representing the San Antonio music scene, Lij is an independent alternative musician who is bridging the gap between anti-pop, emo pop punk, post hardcore, and even glimmers of electronic elements. However you’d like to describe his sound, it is certainly unique, and we are confidently loving what we’ve heard on “WAIT.

As a teaser of his upcoming sophomore album, LOTERIA, Lij has crafted this “emotionally driven alt-anthem” that takes a deeper look into how it feels to lose everything. For a song that is lyrically dense and obviously meaningful, the sounds and instrumentation you’ll hear are equally as impressive. At just two and a half minutes in overall run time, Lij has managed to expertly fuse a handful of genres into one succinct and catchy single.

Loving everything about the emo scene of the mid-2000’s, our judgements tended to lead a bit tougher as it’s a genre we’re a lot more familiar with. With that being said though, Lij’s performance absolutely blew us out of the water and had us floored. What starts off as a fairly normal sounding acoustic pop punk ballad, quickly transformed into so much more that featured a gathering of diverse sounds, massive drums, bits of electronic percussion, and way too much else more to name. While on the surface it might feel like there was too much happening, the artist dialed everything down the perfect amount in order for things not to seem too clustered.

Considering that this is just a taste of what’s to come off the upcoming record, consider our interests piqued and our excitement at an all time high. We often feel that music like this is either being lost in the mix or not represented enough. Thanks to Lij though, he’s keeping the sound alive. We’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for the release of LOTERIA. For now though, we’ll be endlessly spinning “WAIT”.
