Ahead of his all new EP releasing next Friday, August 28th, Leo Wetty has released another teaser single, titled “GMO Flowers”. Read along with us as we break down our thoughts on the song and provide some valuable information about the background of the artist.

Wetty is the title of the EP that you can expect to be released next week, but for the moment, we’ll just be focusing on the release of “GMO Flowers”. Before we get into the music though, it’s always best to familiarize ourselves with the artist. Leo Wetty is new to the music game, but based on the tracks he’s created, we can confidently say he’s headed in the right direction. While he used to play music that could be compared to Bright Eyes or Modest Mouse, he’s taken those influences into a new genre that he considers to be an amalgamation of lofi pop, alternative pop, indie pop, and a bit of R&B as well.

While he self admits to not having a great voice, that doesn’t always have to be the main characteristic of what makes someone good or bad. The lyrics are catchy, the melodies are memorable, and the overall production on these tracks are high quality. What we love most about Leo is that he’s self aware and always trying to create as much content as possible. As a new artist, getting your content and hard work out there can be quite difficult, so Leo has been actively livestreaming his content on Twitch, Facebook, YouTube, and leowetty.live. Listening to the previous singles that Leo has released thus far in the leadup to Wetty, we’re not 100%, but “GMO Flowers” definitely stood out in a big way. While the production and beats aren’t originally created by Leo, it’s not really a problem, because the song is still fun, lighthearted, and easy to listen to. Listening on a nice sound system is a must, to uncover all the subtitles presented. I think one of the main points of the music is not to take it too seriously. Not every song has to be the grand masterpiece that you’d expect, it can honestly be fun to screw around and experiment with the skills you have and just sing for the sake of singing.

Singing for the sake of singing is what normal non-musicians do. We all know for a fact that we’re not gifted in that way, so what better way to accept that than to embrace the skills you do have. That’s why we’re Leo Wetty fans, because the confidence and talent are so clearly there. As long as you’re trying and producing listenable content that keeps the listener intrigued and wanting to know what you’ll come up next, you’re going to turn out just fine. With that being said, we think it’s about time you stopped reading and started listening to “GMO Flowers”.
