Lagoonamatata displays masterful ambient work ahead of debut album
Set for release in early 2021, Lagoonamatata has officially released the first three songs from the impending record, which are thoroughly loving. Read along as we break down our thoughts on the tracks, as well as a background on the artist.
Boston based songwriter and producer Lagoonamatata, also known as Logan Kramer, is one of the few mixing things up within the electronic music scene. Displaying a hybrid of futuristic sounds, ambient works, and creating a “daydream like state”, Kramer is succeeding more and more with each subsequent music release.
Living a life that’s always been filled with music, the artist taught himself a multitude of instruments at a young age that propelled him to a career of creating. Seeking influence from some of the greats, such as Flume, Tycho, Purity Ring, and more, Lagoonamatata aims to create emotional music that thinks outside of the box.
While the instrumentation on these three singles are about as diverse as they get, we also need to fill in the reader on what exactly you’re hearing. Including a singing bowl, kalimba, drum machine, synthesizer, and a keyboard, the options are infinitely endless for what else can be created. “Days Like This”, “Dried Lavender”, and “Wayout” are the tracks that have seen the light of day thus far, and if anything, have all got us equally pumped for Ambiancé, the full length record that is set to follow.
Now while we don’t quite have the official release date of the record, we’ll make sure to keep you all updated, because this is definitely a record you’re not going to want to miss. Specifically though after reading the artist’s list of influences, we had no choice but to judge a bit harsher, considering those artists are quite difficult to emulate. However, each track released so far has been a perfectly succinct and cohesive overall sound that is going to set a wonderful base for the artist’s future.
We don’t want to give too much away at this point, because we’d obviously prefer you listen and make your own judgements, but the 10 minutes of total runtime spanning the songs will be well worth your time. A lovely blend of ambient, thoughtful, and downright innovative music is what you can expect. It’s the type of music you could study to, zone out on a long drive with, or stop and explore the complexities of what you’re actually hearing. For any occasion, Lagoonamatata has got you covered.
With this all being said though, it should really go without saying that we’re recommending a listen. Let it prime you for the big album release day, but until then, enjoy the tunes.
