Lafrobur masters his production on high energy self-titled EP
Absolutely sensational from start to finish, Lafrobur has completely impressed us with his all new self-titled EP, Lafrobur. Please read on for our full review of the record, as well as a background on this talented artist.
On these four delicate tracks, Lafrobur has managed to create a piece of art featuring a high level of production, inventive soundscapes, and something that’s easily re-playable for the future. Currently based in England, his background revolves around Jazz piano, which is apparent after listening, but ultimately what he’s incorporated from start to finish is completely memorable. We love this output and think everyone out there who appreciates good music is going to eat it up.
Taking inspiration from some of the current great instrumentalists like Bonobo, Lapalux, and Four Tet, he’s surrounding his music with a crisp production that features a real emphasis on the horns. Not introducing vocals until midway through the EP, they really did such a complexity that took us by surprise. We thought for sure this was going to be a full vocalless listen, but once they popped in, somehow everything jumped to the next level and it honestly felt like the party really started.
With all that being said though, one of the main thoughts that popped into our collective heads was how perfectly this music would translate in a live setting. The music of Lafrobur feels like one of those sets you’d stumble to at a large music festival due to the high energy aspect, you’d stay for a song to see what’s going on, and end up finding your new favorite artist. There’s a rawness and originality that this musician exudes in his sound and even a certain looseness that just makes you feel like he’s having the time of his life crafting the sound. Plain and simple, we completely loved this EP on our multiple listens.
