Kate Cosentino keeps it lighthearted on single, "Emergency Contact"
There’s no doubt in our mind you’ll have Kate Cosentino’s newest single “Emergency Contact” stuck in your head moments after listening. Please read on for our full review of the track, as well as a much needed background on this emerging artist.
Jam packed with memorable moments, inventive lyricism, and a snazzy instrumental, Kate Cosentino has complete knocked it out of the park with her newest song, “Emergency Contact”. With her vocals at the helm leading us all into greatness, she’s pulled inspirations from some of the current greats like Phoebe Bridgers, St. Vincent, and so many more. In the process though, she’s imparted a ton of originality on her own and it fully shows on first listen.
Fun loving from the start and only getting better right up until the final moments, Kate has self-described this song as “tackling the anxiety-inducing feeling of wanting to ask your partner to be with you forever — but opting for the safer route and just asking for them to be your emergency contact instead”. It’s quite hilarious if you think about it and will undoubtedly leave the Millennial or Gen Z-er feeling seen.
As mentioned above, the instrumentation on “Emergency Contact” is completely killer. Filled with all the necessary horns and brass, it brought a certain liveliness to the song and a spunk that so many pop-centric singles today are seriously lacking. Even Kate’s vocal delivery has a bit of attitude to it which perfectly complements the tone in which the song is meant to be received. We’ll be honest, this was our first introduction to Kate’s music, but it’s left us with the feeling and need to explore the rest of her discography. We sincerely loved this song from start to finish and we know for a fact everyone out there is going to feel the same.
With the dating scene being wilder than ever at the moment, it’s music like this that can look at the situation in a lighthearted way. Kate has so ideally represented what we’re all trying to express, so if you’re ever dealing with the same, just send your significant other this song!
