Kat Spina debuts her incredibly faithful rendition of Mariah Carey's "Make It Happen"
Review by Austin Sher
Officially released on October 23rd, 2020, Kat Spina shared her incredibly faithful rendition of Mariah Carey’s hit single, “Make It Happen”! Read along with us for our full thoughts on the track, in addition to a background on the artist as well.
Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, recording artist and educator, Kat Spina, is currently based out of Westchester and New York City, and thankfully has released this beauty of a single to the world. Spina says, "Choosing ‘Make It Happen’ originates from a place of honoring Mariah Carey’s powerful lyrics and story about rising above, facing our fears and doing whatever it takes to manifest our vision."
This track features Spina's first collaboration with hip-hop artist, Shaka The King, whose verse illustrates overcoming the battle, standing tall and not giving up the fight. Spina also let us know that the song is about a phrase of manifestation and abundance, a message that during the heavy times we continue to collectively face, we aim to dig deeper and make our goals a reality."
Having closely listened to both the original and Kat’s version, it’s no surprise that we’re incredibly impressed with her version. Covering any song by Mariah Carey is already an unbelievably difficult task to take on, and coming close in terms of vocal delivery and range is certainly tough, but Kat proved she had what it takes to succeed in the effort.
After our first listen though, we couldn’t help but instantly want either a full album of Mariah covers or a full length of originals! While it looks like Kat has an existing discography, we’re crossing our fingers that the release of this track is going to spark something in the very near future. Seeing as she has the vocal chops to go head to head with one of the best of all time, it’s not too far-fetched to say that a record of originals would be out of the question.
Considering this track in particular was produced by Grammy Award winning producer Brian Forbes, she’s already got a fitting time lined up to make it happen! What we’re trying to say mainly is that we loved what we heard overall and need some more Kat Spina in our lives. We’re highly recommending and suggesting you take the time out of your day to take a listen.
