Justin Maki shows off his range on exceptional new single, "Different Kind of Love"

Debuted on September 18th, 2020, Justin Maki has released another stellar 2020 single, titled “Different Kind of Love”. Please read along with us as we break down our thoughts on the track, in addition to a bit of background on the artist himself.
Currently based out of London, Canada, Justin Maki classifies himself as a pop and easy listening artist. Justin let us know that the single was created in, and inspired by, quarantine and the coronavirus which perpetuated its creation and release. He believes in the song and is confident that it makes for a great story, given the current “COVID” context we are all living in. We have to say, confidently, that the upbeat, poppy, and catchy nature of “Different Kind of Love” is exactly what we needed during this time.
You may hear glimpses of it within the music, but Justin takes musical influence directly from John Mayer, Allen Stone, and Bruno Mars. On this song particularly, we heard a great deal of John Mayer influence within the guitar playing, as he’s extremely talented at what he does. In addition, Justin isn’t a stranger to the music scene either, in fact he’s played over 1000 shows during his career dating back to 2012. Not only do we highly recommend listening to this latest single, but his past discography is sure to impress as well. We were particularly fond of his 2017 EP release, Long Time Coming.
To get back on track though, “Different Kind of Love” is the exact feel and vibe we were looking for in a song. As we get to the end of the summer, it’s these types of laidback tracks that really remind us to take it easy. Not only is the production quality and instrumentation diverse, but Justin sounds like he’s having a fantastic time delivering the lyrics as well. There’s a story being told under the poppy hooks and melodies, you’ve just got to listen.
The song really has a healthy dose of everything you’d want in terms of straightforward indie pop. You’ve got Justin’s strong and wide vocal range, all sorts of inclusion of instruments within the musical breakdown, and even a bit of whistling here are there that really ties together the feel of the song. All in all, I’d say we definitely have a winner on our hands. With all this being said, it’s time to stop reading and start listening!
