Jon Wayne Hatfield packs a punch on emotion-filled single, "Tell Me Ray"

Easily one of his strongest vocal performances yet, Jon Wayne Hatfield has left us in a near stupor on his newest single, “Tell Me Ray”. Keep reading as break down our thoughts on the track, as well as an update on this artist.

Coming up on a full year since our interview with Jon Wayne Hatfield discussing his single “Good For Nothin’” and thankfully the artist has been hard at work with so much more music. On his newest endeavor, a single titled “Tell Me Ray”, the artist has ultimately stripped back his sound to his booming vocals and an acoustic guitar, truly honing on his immense capabilities as a storyteller. It’s undoubtedly jam packed with emotion and we’re sincerely excited for everyone to dig into another sensational piece of art from Jon.

Having actually performed this during his American Idol audition in the past week, it’s wild to think that hundreds of thousands of viewers across the globe got to experience this at the same time. The video speaks for itself obviously, and Jon Wayne Hatfield continues to be a lively performer, but somehow there’s even more of an intimacy about this one in the recorded version. The production is crisp, clean, and clear, yet it focuses solely on his words that you can’t help but hang on one by one. On the background of it all, it tells a story of the artist's granddad (Ray). As he was raised by his grandma and granddad, Hatfield has always been closer to his grandparents than most. "Tell Me Ray" was inspired by a time when Ray was struggling following the death of his wife - Hatfield's grandma.

At just a little under three minutes in runtime, it’s memorable in the sense that it packs such a hard punch in every aspect of the song. As mentioned, it’s got that refined and raw nature about it due to the minimalism, which in turn amplifies every other moment of the song. Considering there’s no novelties or gimmicks to capture your gaze, you’re forced as a listener to immerse yourself in all that’s happening. It’s a power move as a musician and Jon Wayne Hatfield pulled it off effortlessly.
