Jessamine Barham empowers on expressive single, "Bow Down"
Pivoting both stylistically and to a different genre, Jessamine Barham has opened up new doors for herself on her all new single titled “Bow Down”. Do yourselves a favor and keep reading for a closer look into the track, as well as an always needed update on the artist.
It’s been slightly over a month since we last reviewed the work of Jessamine Barham, but with a new personal situation arising, she’s just let loose an absolute rocker of a song called “Bow Down”. For those out of the loop on this musician, she’s a San Diego-based alternative artist who’s been quite prolific with her releases this year. With now three singles and an EP under her belt, this genre-bending delivery comes as a welcome but open surprise for what we sincerely hope to hear in the near future. We’re urging everyone out there to hit the play button.
While Jessamine has stated in the past that typically her favorite genres gear towards alternative, folk, metal, and classical, you can only imagine our thrill to hear the metal and harder rock influence come in on “Bow Down”. It becomes quickly apparent within her vocal style and delivery, but ultimately this song is about “a toxic relationship where one partner wants to be in control of the other person”. Clearly, the other person is at the end of their rope with patience and it comes through clear as day. Sticking to similarities in the rest of her growing discography, “Bow Down” clocks in at a sharp minute and a half even, but packs the punch of a lifetime in getting straight to the point, expressing itself, and coming out on top as the one who’s really in control.
Instrumentally speaking, although it certainly leans heavier in its tone, it’s fairly stripped back in terms of instrumentation. Just featuring Jessamine’s attitude-filled vocals and a crunchy electric guitar, anything more would honestly seem pointless and take away from the resounding message. Don’t get us wrong, we truly loved her last single “Locked Door” and its Hip Hop undertones, but there’s something about the utilization of her voice and how well it works in this circumstance. Jessy, we would love to hear an EP or a full record of powerful and empowering tracks just like this!
