Jess Chalker surpasses expectations on vibrant debut, "Hemispheres"

Releasing officially on November 5th, 2021, Jess Chalker has surpassed our wildest expectations on her debut record, Hemispheres. We are loving it! Please read on for our full in-depth look at the album, in addition to a much needed background on this emerging artist.

Currently based out of London, this Australian-born singer and songwriter has successfully carved out her own musical path and niche with the fresh release of Hemispheres. Released via 528 Records, this alternative pop album is equal parts catchy, original, and will most definitely have you bopping along as it all picks up midway through. Without a doubt, we can’t help but overwhelmingly recommend you give it a listen as soon as it’s out.

Says Jess on the background of the record, “There's a tension in it that's familiar, like the tumult of being in one of those relationships you know won't go the distance but feels good in the moment”. We feel that can definitely be attributed to particular songs, however the songwriting effort here on Hemispheres is so strong, each individual message comes across clear as day from track to track. Some standouts for us by far had to have been “Cynical”, “Stupid Trick”, and “Hoops”. That’s not to say that anything else fell flat in the slightest, rather those isolated singles will certainly be making it onto our playlist.

From start to finish though, there were seemingly infinite moments that stuck out as memorable and long lasting. By far though it had to be Jess Chalkers’ extremely unique vocals and delivery that she gives on each song. In the world of music where there’s so much blending of sound and genre, she’s broken the mold here and single handedly used her voice as another instrument that plucks her out from the pack. Right from the get go, you can feel that neverending surge of passion and emotion that doesn’t let up until the final moments on the closer, “Cathedrals”.

For a debut record, there’s usually at least a few glaring flaws that any average music listener could pick out, however we felt an ultimate cohesiveness on Hemispheres that’s tough to nail on a first effort. Needless to say, the moment this album drops on November 5th, it should head to the top of your listening queue, because all in all it’s pure gold. Enjoy!
