Jazzie Young shines bright on her debut EP, "grown up & grown apart"

Released in 2021, but still just as powerful today, Jazzie Young’s EP grown up & grown apart is a piece of art from start to finish. Please read on for a closer look at the record, as well as a background on this emerging artist.

Currently based out of Los Angeles, Jazzie Young is an indie pop artist that’s infusing many influences into an incredibly eclectic sound. On her debut EP grown up & grown apart, she’s consistently been turning heads of all who have taken the opportunity to listen. Now having gone through it multiple times ourselves, the hype is very real, and we can’t help but recommend everyone out there give it a close and focused listen.

Written entirely by Jazzie at the beginning of our initial quarantine, it’s a lyrically dense record that “details the relationships, friendships, and self-exploration that she's gone through from her early twenties until now”. Pairing it with a dynamic production that emphasizes not only her divine vocals, but an expansive and atmospheric production, this was a clearly well thought out project at the forefront. It also has a video series attached to the EP to provide a visual component, which in this case, was completely necessary due to the stories being told.

Coming in at 7 songs, spanning right around 23 minutes, you can’t help but feel that the record’s track listing was in chronological order. Starting with “spaghetti stains”, Jazzie so effortlessly sets the tone with the build up and it only takes off from there. Sure, there’s plenty of songs here that could be isolated and put on playlists, but the charm in the EP is how smooth it flows from one song to another. As a storyteller and songwriter, it’s methodically put together to evoke an album experience that seems to be a lost art these days. With that being said, you need to start right at the beginning and let this one flow through untouched to get all the feelings.

Don’t waste another moment, please check out Jazzie Young’s debut EP and stay up to date with what’s undoubtedly going to be her biggest year yet. We’ve included all the important links below to do so, enjoy!
