Jaquan shares his heartfelt debut EP, Let That Sh!t Go!
Review by Austin Sher
Cincinnati’s own, Jaquan, has just released his incredible new EP, titled Let That Sh!t Go!. Read along with us as we dive into what we thought of the record, as well as a bit of background on the artist.
Since the age of 9 years old, Armani “Jaquan” Yett has been fine tuning his stellar voice. It all really started for him when he realized he wanted to pursue music, when he first heard Mario’s 2004 “Let me Love You.” Honestly, we get it as well. That was such a jam back in the day, I’m not surprised in the slightest that he found it to be inspiring. It had so much influence on the genre, and what Jaquan has created with this EP is something very similar and reminiscent of that era.
The EP was not what I expected, in that I wasn’t expecting to be so taken aback by what I was hearing. The lovely acoustic guitar picking and Jaquan’s voice paired perfectly and made for a super enjoyable 7 overall minute listen. If you ever get a chance to meet Jaquan, you’ll quickly find that he is constantly singing and humming melodies. A life filled with singing randomly came together for an EP that put us in our feels.
Jaquan’s music is guaranteed to have you in your feelings. Every time you listen you will discover a new emotion that takes you back to past situations. Jaquan says, “Creating music is therapeutic for me. It helps me better understand myself and others. When people really listen and take in my music I feel that we have established a genuine connection.” It’s so true, listening to someone’s hard work and then easily being able to connect with what they were going through is hard hitting. It builds a connection with the artist and gives you the insight you need to see what they were going through at the time.
Very clearly, we really liked what we heard. It was quite a current feel to it and has plenty of replayability. All the songs immediately went on our mood-based playlists and we can’t wait for the songs to pop up again. While all the songs were fantastic, the feature with Grizz on the EP opener was a nice surprise.
