Jahlisa Jade shares alluring new single, "When I Was 17"
The time has finally come! Jahlisa Jade is back with a bombtastic new single, titled “When I Was 17”. We have instantly fallen in love with it. Please read with us as we share our complete thoughts on the track, as well as a background on the artist as well.
Previously known as Averto, Jahlisa Jade is here and actively showcasing her treasure chest full of talents, especially on this latest single, “When I Was 17”. Officially released on April 30th, 2021, she’s expertly fused genres with the inclusion of a lofi, R&B, and chill pop inspired sound, but of course with a signature touch of her own. After first listening, we could instantly tell this was something special.
At just a tad under three minutes in overall run time, Jahlisa has done the toughest job there is, creating the want for more music just like that while also delivering everything we needed at the same time. Featuring her smooth yet commanding vocals, “When I Was 17” toes the line of a laidback slow jam that channels bits and pieces of a familiar 90’s sound. Along with a clean sounding production, our expectations have been surpassed here.
Listening in and listening closely has more than convinced us that Jahlisa Jade is the real deal. Mixing up hard hitting and complex lyrics in the forefront has allowed us for a subtle instrumentation in the background to sort of do its own thing and create a low key beat so as to not outshine her performance. For us, the real standout were the vocals (obviously), but at the same time the complete package of it all is what really set it over the top.
Truly, there isn’t a bad thing we could see about the single. It’s ignited our love for a genre we dearly miss, and this has just proven that you can take bits and pieces of an older sound and modernize them to the point where it sounds like something brand new. However you’d like to put it or even put a label on it, Jahlisa has knocked this one out of the park and we’re highly recommending all the listens of “When I Was 17”.
Don’t miss out on this one, it’s just the type of jam we all need in our lives at the moment. Do yourselves a favor and give a listen and follow along with the artist by clicking all the important links below. Enjoy!
