Jae Anthonie debuts his fresh new summer single, "On the Way Up"

Review by Austin Sher

Released on July 31st, 2020, Jae Anthonie has shared his smooth new single that we can’t stop listening to. It’s titled “On the Way Up”, just like his career. Read along with us as we break down our thoughts on the song, as well as some background on the artist as well.

Currently based out of Carson, California, Jae Anthonie is an American rapper that is not only a vocalist but he also writes, produces, and engineers his own music and also other artists' music. His music has been featured on Home Grown Radio, a radio station based out of Los Angeles. 2pac, Eminem, Nas, J. Cole, and Ice Cube are some of the many artists to influence Anthonie's passion for music. Anthonie's goal is to leave his mark as one of the most motivational and influential artists of his generation. If “On the Way Up” is any indication of that, we’d see he’s definitely headed in the right direction thus far.

This song specifically is about a reminiscence that a man would have if he was used to being out in night clubs before everything got shut down. It also shows the frustration one would have being stuck inside especially when everything was open. Everyone showed him love on the highest level. This song is very poppy and meant for someone to dance to.

Getting right into it on our thoughts and first impressions, the first thing we wanted to do as the beat hit, was dance! If this isn’t the perfect club song or even driving song while you’re with a group of your close friends, then we don’t know what is. Coming in at three and a half minutes of runtime, it starts off super hot. Jae enters the mix almost immediately and doesn’t let his foot off the gas until right as it’s ending.

It’s really difficult to pinpoint what our highlights of the track were, because honestly it’s got a lot going for it. The original beat is an earworm that to this day won’t leave our heads. Jae’s flow is flawless, to the point where his speed is impressive yet you can still make out every lyric of the song. The rhymes are catchy, the lyrics are fun but relatable, and overall it’s just a super fun track.

We’re nearing towards the end of summer unfortunately, but “On the Way Up” was immediately added to all of our personal playlists because the song deserves to be listened to out and about. It lifted not only our spirits, but our moods as well. We highly recommend you listen to the single and also make sure to check out the rest of Jae Anthonie’s discography as well, you won’t be disappointed.
