Out on February 26th, 2021, Isabelle Fries has delivered her first new single of the year, “Shine Through the Rain”. We are loving it! Read along with us as we share our complete thoughts on the track, as well a refresher on this blossoming artist.

In case you forgot, we covered Isabelle Fries’ recently released single, “All We Had” not too long ago. Since then, we’ve been head over heels with her complete sound and are thrilled she’s back with more. Inspired and influenced by artists such as Amy Winehouse, Maggie Rogers, and more, she’s imparting her own signature sound with each subsequent delivery of music.

What could be considered as a straightforward piano ballad becomes so much more once you take the lyrics and themes covered into consideration. On “Shine Through the Rain”, Isabelle has floored us not only with her vocal performance, but on the production side of things as well. Ultimately you’ll hear a vocal forward track, but without a doubt, the song is an absolute mood with the added orchestration and keys added in the background. Whatever genre you’d like to wedge this into, we feel that it transcends it all and stands on its own.

Layered with warm background vocals and a reverberating line of “I’m tired of running in place”, you can’t help but feel and relate with Isabelle. At just three minutes in total run time, the artist manages to take the listener by hold and forces them to listen to her story. We’d describe her vocals as commanding, yet also endearing in a way that she makes you interested in what she’s saying. Not every artist out there who’s communicating lyrics seems to have that power to grab your attention, but Isabelle is surely different in that sense.

Considering it looks to be that the artist’s release schedule is more on a single to single basis, our hopes are that more are on the way. We do realize that as life goes on and experiences are gathered, subject matter builds in order to create songs like this. However, is it selfish that we just want more right now? No rush to the artist of course, but a complete EP or album would be so great to hear a cohesive record. For now though, we’ll just keep streaming “Shine Through the Rain”.

It should have become quite clear as soon as we started professing our love for the track, but of course we’re highly recommending a listen to it. It’s a wonderful addition to her overall discography and has us incredibly excited to see what’s next and what’s on the way. For now though, enjoy!
